Research
The University of Texas Prevention Research Center (UTPRC) is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Prevention Research Center Program, which helps to create networks of academic centers, health agencies, and communities for health promotion and disease prevention research. Our research is divided among our core project, Special Interest Projects (SIPs) and other-funded research projects, most of which focus on child and adolescent health.
Two assumptions guiding our research and demonstration are
- morbidity and mortality experienced during childhood and adolescence are preventable
- many adult illnesses with origins in the pre-adult years can be prevented (or their risks reduced) through early intervention during childhood and adolescence
