Commencement
The UT School of Public Health holds its annual Commencement Ceremony at the end of the spring semester on Saturday, May 9, 2009. All students who have applied for and completed their degree requirements during the previous summer and fall semesters and the current spring semester are invited to attend. If you would like to participate please review the information and directions below:
Before Commencement:
Regalia - Regalia chosen by the School of Public Health must be worn by all graduating students and faculty who participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Regalia can be rented or purchased online through http://www.everythinggraduation.com/uthsc. Contact Bob Cochran at 469-688-9127 or the UTHSC Bookstore at 713-500-9561.
Due to usually hot and humid weather it is suggested that light weight clothing be worn under the regalia with dark shoes and socks.

After March 1, 2009 a $25 late fee will be assessed on all orders.
Doctoral Hooding Ceremony/Form (Doctoral Students Only) - The School of Public Health has established the tradition of having two faculty, the advisor/research supervisor and one other member of the doctoral committee hood the student at the commencement ceremony.
Please complete this form indicating the two School of Public Health Faculty on your committee who you would like to perform your doctoral hooding at the ceremony. Your third choice will be an alternate in case one member cannot attend.
Be sure to contact these faculty members to make certain they plan to attend commencement and are willing to participate in your hooding ceremony. We will not be contacting them.
Rehearsal - Commencement rehearsal will be held (TBA) from 12 noon to 1:00pm in RAS E 305. All of those graduating and participating in the ceremony will receive important instructions on commencement at that time. If you cannot attend the rehearsal but will participate in the commencement ceremony please notify the Office of Student Affairs.

Volunteers will be in the dressing/waiting area to assist graduates with getting dressed and lined up for the group photo. They will also assist with organizing the line-up for marching entrance.

Hotel Accommodations - Many hotels in the local area offer minivan service,weekend rates, complimentary meals, and are located near many of Houston's local attractions - the Texas Medical Center, the Museum District, Reliant Park and the Houston Theater District; be sure to ask about any of these and more when making reservations. Wheelchair Accessibility - The outdoor parking is street level and the ceremony and dinner are both held on the first floor of the Conference Center. The indoor parking structure has elevators which will take you to the main floor ballroom.
Special Needs - Any graduating student with special needs should contact the Office of Student Affairs to make appropriate arrangements 713-500-9032.
Guest - There are no set limits on the number guests that can be invited.
Seating - Guests will sit at tables with seating for eight, on first-come first-served basis. Holding seats will be discouraged, so try to arrive with an entire group.
BBQ Dinner - A barbeque buffet dinner will be served at the Conference Center by the school faculty at 4:00 p.m.
After Commencement:
Photographer - Interstate Candid Photography, Inc. david@interstatephoto.com will take pictures of the graduates in a group, individually as they each cross the stage, and as they receive their diplomas from the Dean. The photographer will contact each graduate with information about purchasing photos. Contact David at 281-363-0636.

Commencement Booklets - Commencement Books will be given out one per family at the Commencement Ceremony. If there are extra books at the end of the ceremony graduates will be welcome to take them.
Diploma Information - Official Diplomas are not given by the Dean at the ceremony. The previous summer and fall students will have already received their diploma, the current spring graduates should receive their diplomas by mail six to eight weeks after the ceremony.
