MD/MPH—a dual degree program in medicine and public health
The MD/MPH degree program between the School of Medicine of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the School of Public Health of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston aims to prepare a new generation of health professionals to integrate medical and public health skills in their future professional lives as practitioners, researchers or administrators. The 4-year dual degree program provides an avenue for students to concurrently enroll in both degree programs so that duplication in course content is minimized, academic interactions are more efficient, and the time and costs incurred are reduced compared to earning the degrees independently. Shared MPH credit is given for 10 semester hours for relevant courses taken in the medical curriculum. These shared credits along with the 35 credits described below in the MD/MPH program overview make up the 45 credit hours required for this program. The 35 credit hours include all the elements of the MPH degree—five core courses, electives, practicum and thesis.
Application procedures for the MPH portion of the dual degree programs should be followed at the School of Public Health. Please refer to the Guidebook for the UT San Antonio 4-year MD/MPH Program for more information.
