San Antonio Regional Campus

Student Resources and Campus Facilities

Even though students enroll through The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston, all students attending the San Antonio Regional Campus will need to obtain a User ID and Photo ID card from The UT Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). This will enable students to access UTHSCSA Student Services, the Briscoe Library and to copy/print items from any campus location, including our computer lab.

E-Mail

Email is a major communication mode for administration, staff, students and faculty. It is very important that each student have a valid e-mail account. When a student enrolls in a course, the student gets a "Houston"-based e-mail account: (name@uth.tmc.edu). At the San Antonio regional campus students also get a "San Antonio"-based e-mail account: (name@uthscsa.edu).

The Blackboard System

The Blackboard system is the students' primary access channel to classes and class-specific information during the course of the semester. Class assignments, announcements, notes, lecture materials and other materials are delivered through this web-based teaching system. Every student will be expected to use Blackboard throughout their entire course of study.

Libraries

Students will have access to a small library on site, the Briscoe Library on the campus of the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and the School of Public Health Library at the UT Health Science Center at Houston.

Lecture Facilities & Computer Systems

The San Antonio campus is equipped with three classrooms, library/study room and a computer lab.

Classrooms

There are three classrooms. Each classroom is equipped with the latest in videoconferencing technology that allows students to attend and fully participate in classes from remote locations. Classes are frequently transmitted from the main campus in Houston and are attended by students here in San Antonio, Brownsville, El Paso and Dallas. This full interactivity enables greater sharing of ideas and information over a much larger audience. Each classroom is also equipped with a PC-compatible computer system, video projection system, and Smart-Board technology for dynamic presentations and lectures.

Library/Study Room

Students have access to a small library, which also doubles as a study area. Students are on the honor system and must sign items in and out of this library.

Computer Lab

The Computer Lab is equipped with twelve PC compatible computers. It is highly recommended that students always keep their data on their own CD's or USB connectors. Students print documents on a shared laser printer. A student must have a valid UTHSCSA Photo ID card in order to print. Ten cents is charged for each page.

Software

Due to licensing restrictions, not all computers are configured identically. Software available on all the student computers in the computer lab includes:

  • Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access)
  • Internet Explorer 6 or later
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader

Specialty software available on select computers includes:

  • Aloha, Marplot, Risk Assistant (environmental sciences)
  • ArcGIS, EpiInfo/EpiData (statistics & mapping)
