. Funding is now available to support a number of internships at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) will be responsible for coordinating these internships. Any full- or part-time student, who is enrolled in a master's or doctoral level degree program is permitted to apply for the internships offered.

For example, the Student Investigator Initiated Short Term Public Health Training Activities For Residents and Graduate Students Training. Research activities may be completed at the applicant's academic institution or at a CDC facility. A CDC mentor and/or faculty member's participation will offer guidance and support throughout the training experience. Funding is available. The approximate funding level per activity ranges from $20,000 to $50,000. Other training may include opportunities in health policy, statistics.
California Family Health Council, Inc.
- The
Title X Intern Program
is seeking graduate students in public health, health education and related fields to participate in intern opportunities in federally-funded family planning providers in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. Placements are year-round but the majority of them are filled in the summer months; stipends are available. The Internship Office has catalogs of information on available internship positions. - The Center for Science in the Public Interest is a national consumer organization that focuses on health and nutrition issues. CSPI offers internships for a small number of qualified students in undergraduate, graduate, law, and medical schools each summer and during the school year.

Intern Program
- Up to 28 internships in one of the eight divisions of the CBO in Washington, DC. Internships are for a period of ten weeks and interns gain valuable experience in quantitative and analytical research. You can register to be notified by e-mail when the application process is open.
Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, Inc.

- The Department of Health and Human Services is offering a two-year career intern program, Emerging Leaders Program, beginning in July. All HHS OPDIVs will be participating in the program and offering approximately 40-50 internships throughout HHS (Master's degree qualifying for a GS-9 internship). Deadline is in April.

(LAF) Cancer Survivorship (ongoing) Internship Program - Interns will have the opportunity to work in Austin in
the cancer community in the areas of Advocacy, Grants, Public Health/Education, and/or Planning and Evaluation. Interns will have
the opportunity to work directly with programs for cancer survivors, to lead projects, to evaluate programs and/or to direct research to explore ways to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

Maternal and Child Health Bureau
- Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP)- The Summer Internship Program is to enhance students' skills in data analysis and promote training in MCH epidemiology, and to provide assistance to state and local health agencies with data-related projects. The GSIP is coordinated by the Maternal and Child Health Information Resource Center (MCHIRC).
Applications are available on-line and application deadline is February for Summer Internships. Some internships have an earlier proposal deadline.
The internship is to be completed over a 12-week period, to begin in May, June, or July. Stipends: $5000 to be dispersed over three months to cover travel to the internship site, housing, and daily living expenses.
Mount Sinai School of Medicine
- The Division of Environmental & Occupational Medicine of Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City offers a training program for minority students.
Deadline: March.
The National Academies
- Christine Mirzayan Science and Technology Policy Internship Program is for graduate students through post-doctoral scholars in any physical, biological, or social science field or any field of engineering, medicine/health, or veterinary medicine as well as business, law, education, and other graduate and professional programs. Postdoctoral scholars should have received their PhD within the past 5 years. For the year 2004, the internship program will comprise three sessions. See

NASA Langley Research Center -
Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars Program (LARSS)
National Cancer Institute
- Six month paid graduate internships (with possibility of a 6-month renewal) to help plan, develop, evaluate, and promote education programs and materials, including Web-based products, for the public, cancer patients and health professionals.
Deadlines are April 1 for the July-December session and October 1 for the January-June session.
National Conference of State Legislatures
- Provide research assistance on a variety of health topics (part-time during the school year, full-time during the summer).
National Science Foundation
announces four summer programs that provide U.S. graduate students in science and engineering first-hand experience in Japanese, Korean and Taiwan research environments, an introduction to the science and science policy infrastructure of the respective countries, and language training.
Deadline: December 1.
Navy Acquisition Intern Program
- A three-year internship with Department of the Navy. Interns get to sit in a GS-12 position at the end of the program.
Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
(ORISE) and U.S. Department of Energy Professional Internship Program at Savannah River Site - Applicants (chemistry, computer sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, geology, physics) must be beginning graduate students who have not yet begun their thesis or dissertation research. Appointees are assigned independent fossil energy-related research projects that correlate with their academic and career goals.
Deadlines: Feb. 15, June 1, Oct. 1.
Pfizer
- Pfizer Global Research and Development (PGRD), aimed at providing practical work experience opportunities to university students.
Presidential Management Intern Program
(PMI) for Master's or doctoral-level students completing their graduate degree requirements between September 1 and August 31 of the following year are eligible to be nominated by their educational institution for participation in the upcoming PMI Program. As a PMI, your assignments may involve domestic or international issues, technology, science, criminal justice, health, financial management, and many other fields in support of public service programs. PMIs receive an initial two-year appointment. PMIs are appointed at the GS-9 level (currently $43,000 range per year) and are eligible for various employment benefits (i.e., insurance, holidays, vacations, etc.) at organizations such as
