The University of Texas School of Public Health
The Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research, the Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living, and the Institute for Health Policy are part of the The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston, one of six schools within The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Other schools are the Medical School, Dental Branch, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Health Information Sciences. Established in 1967, the School of Public Health is one of the three accredited schools of public health in the state of Texas and ranks 12 out of 29 in the nation. The doctoral program in Health Promotion was ranked 1st in the country in 2003 among schools offering terminal health education degrees. The school has regional campus programs, in San Antonio, El Paso, Dallas, and Brownsville, that offer the MPH degree.
The unique infrastructure of the SPH main campus with satellite campuses located in diverse communities hundreds of miles from Houston affords investigators the opportunity to conduct research in remote locations with minimal additional cost. The network of office space and resources, the faculty at each site, and the established communication channels between Houston and the satellite campuses provides for Houston-area researchers to access areas with great economic and health disparities.
Mentors from the School of Public Health are administratively housed within one of the five Divisions of the School:
Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences
Biostatistics
Epidemiology and Disease Control
Management, Policy, and Community Health
Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences
