Want to see the world in a whole new way? This site presents maps using equal area cartograms, which are also known as density-equalising maps. The cartogram re-sizes each territory according to the variable (such as births, youth literacy, population under 1, etc.) being mapped. The maps and data files cover 200 territories, mainly United Nation Member States plus a few others to include at least 99.95% of the world's population.
International Health Data Reference Guide-- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Provides information on the availability of selected national vital, hospital, health personnel resources, and population0based health survey statistics. Information for the nations included in the guides is obtained from the government and official agencies that are listed in the guide for further reference.
Population Reference Bureau: World Data
This database contains data on 95 demographic variables for more than 220 countries, 28 world regions and sub-regions, the world as a whole, the United States as a whole, and the U.S. states. (Not all countries have data on all variables.)
HealthMap: Global Disease Alert Map (Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology)
HealthMap brings together disparate data sources to achieve a unified and comprehensive view of the current global state of infectious diseases and their effect on human and animal health. This freely available Web site integrates outbreak data of varying reliability, ranging from news sources (such as Google News) to curated personal accounts (such as ProMED) to validated official alerts (such as World Health Organization).
