The Houston Initiative for Global Health, Education and Research (HIGHER) is a collaboration between the University of Texas School of Public Health and Baylor College of Medicine. Funded by the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health, HIGHER’s purpose is to involve students in international research and promote global health.

HIGHER is comprised of courses in Baylor College of Medicine’s International Health Track for medical students and the University of Texas School of Public Health’s Global Health Concentration for MPH and DrPH students. Our two schools are also partnering to offer a joint MD/MPH program in global health research with the goal of attracting and training clinicians interested in international health.

Monthly colloquia entitled Frontiers in Global Health are held to serve as a platform from which researchers in global health can share their experiences.  The colloquia serve as an opportunity to expose students and the Houston community to the wide variety of opportunities available in the field.
