STEER U.S. - Mexico Border Health Scholars Program
The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) offers unique field experiences at the U.S.-Mexico Border for students enrolled in U.S. MD/MPH, medical, public health, and other health professions degree programs. This opportunity is presented by the South Texas Environmental Education and Research (STEER) program, based in Laredo since 1996 and Harlingen since 2004.
If you are interested in international health, public health, or environmental health, this is an unforgettable in vivo experience that will help you see new career opportunities. You will learn from dozens of health practitioners in clinics and hospitals, researchers, promotoras (community health workers), and front-line public health workers on both sides of the Border.

GLOBAL HEALTH SCHOLARS PROGRAM
If you are passionate about global health and human rights, and seeking to become a leader in the field, you should apply for the AMSA’s Global Health Scholars Program! This exciting program will provide dedicated, thoughtful students with a unique opportunity to develop their own framework of human rights in global health and to bring to fruition responsible and innovative solutions to global health crises.
This comprehensive 8- month long program will allow promising, motivated health professional students to develop advanced advocacy, communication, and critical thinking skills with which to effect change in global health. The praxis-oriented curriculum will assist the Scholars in developing sophisticated ethical frameworks to comprehend global health disparities such that they can apply this framework to influence policy and create solutions addressing today’s global health crises. The Scholars will be guided through critical analyses of existing literature and policies on global health and human rights through structured readings and discussions with international leaders in the field. The Scholars will be given the opportunity to apply these frameworks to create meaningful, pragmatic solutions to a pertinent issue perpetuating global health disparities, and will be encouraged to apply advocacy and communication skills to fully develop their solutions. This year, the Scholars will focus their attention on creating solutions to address the issue of Human Resources for Health (HRH). Overall, the Global Health Scholars Programs aims to provide creative, passionate and intelligent students with the resources they need to bring to fruition responsible and innovative solutions to global health crises. We anticipate that Global Scholars will be the future LEADERS in the realm of global health and human rights.
The Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars Support Center is offering a one-year clinical research training experience for graduate-level U.S. students in the health professions. This is an opportunity for highly motivated individuals to experience mentored research training at top-ranked NIH-funded research centers in developing countries.
