EOHS Research Seminar Series

Zhi-Dong Jiang, MD, will present, “Host-Enteric Microbe Interaction.” After more than two decades since its rediscovery, a great deal has been learned about the pathophysiology, epidemiology and management of C. difficile associated diarrhea. The focus of this presentation will be on the projects conducted by our C. difficile research team at SPH and SLEH. Zhi-Dong Jiang, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Center for Infectious Disease at the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Jiang has devoted her efforts to the preservation of public health, specifically in the area of infectious diseases. This presentation is scheduled to take place at the School of Public Health in Room 102B on Friday, October 12th, 2007, 12–1:00 pm. Free Lunch for first 50 attendees. Rousseau, MD, PhD, will present “Current Trends in French Health Politics: securing or restricting access?” Labeled as the best health system worldwide by the World Health Organization, the French health system is reaching a sky-high deficit estimated to 17 billion dollars in 2008. Following the recent election of the right-of-center market-oriented Nicolas Sarkozy, what are the new policies and what are their implications for French tax payers, patients and health-care providers? Dr. Rousseau is Professor of Medical and Pediatric Oncology; University Claude Bernard, Lyon France and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Baylor College of Medicine. Task Force on Access to Health Care in Texas

The next meeting of the Task Force on Access to Health Care in Texas will take place in Austin, Texas on the morning of October 22, 2007. The meeting will be held at the Commons Conference Center, located on the J. J. Pickle Research Campus of The University of Texas at Austin. The Task Force will update you on progress of its 2006 report: CODE RED: The Critical Condition of Health in Texas.
This Task Force public meeting will begin with registration at 8AM, and will conclude by 12:30PM, when the Task Force members will take all issues addressed into consideration and begin their deliberations on those topics raised.
