Ovarian Cancer Quilt on Display at MD Anderson
The quilt designed, hand-stitched and hand-beaded by staff and family from the division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences is currently on display as part of Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. The quilt was started to honor Maria Grissom’s sister-in-law who died of ovarian cancer. It became a project for several people in the EOHS division, including Maria, her mother, Conchita Gomez-Moran (Dr. George Delclos’s wife) and Anne Dybala, to honor/remember those friends and family touched by cancer. The quilt has a large teal awareness ribbon appliquéd to the top with a number of other ribbons flowing and twisting in the background. These ribbons honor colleagues, friends and family touched by cancer.
The Ovarian Cancer Awareness Quilts will be on display in September for Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the following locations:
9/19: ACB West Lobby at the Sprint for Life Sidewalk Sale
9/21: Rotary House Crosswalk
The quilt will again be on display at the International Quilt Festival in October as part of the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Booth. After this, it will become part of the permanent collection of MD Anderson’s Ovarian Cancer group.
