APHA Public Health Fellowship in Government
July 20, 2007 - APPLICATIONS DUE
APHA is looking for candidates with strong public health credentials who wish to work in a congressional office on legislative and policy issues related to health and the environment. The fellowship will begin in January 2008 and continue through December 2008. The fellowship is designed to provide a unique public policy learning experience, to demonstrate the value of science-government interaction, and to make practical contributions to enhancing public health science and practical knowledge in government. The process of applying for this fellowship is an open competition. A committee of APHA leaders and policy experts will review the applications and select the finalists. The application is due to APHA by July 20, 2007. The committee will make its decision by September 30, 2007. All candidates must have a MPH or a Doctorate in a public health discipline plus 5 years of experience in a public health setting.

Dissertation Presentation

Charles G. Minard will present his dissertation, “Trends in binary, longitudinal data with application to smoking cessation studies."
The objective of this study is to develop a new methodology to identify the presence and determinants of trend in binary, longitudinal data.

NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program
The NCI Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program provides postdoctoral training opportunities in cancer prevention and control. The purpose of the program is to train individuals from a multiplicity of health sciences disciplines in the field of cancer prevention and control.
To be considered for the CPFP, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Doctoral degree. You must possess an MD, PhD, JD, or other doctoral degree in a related discipline (e.g., epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics, philosophy, or the biomedical, nutritional, public health, social, or behavioral sciences). Foreign education must be comparable to that received in the United States. Applicants currently enrolled in an accredited doctoral degree program that have not yet fulfilled all degree requirements will be considered for entry into the Program, with the understanding that all requirements will be completed before the start date of the CPFP, June 23, 2008. Assurance to this effect must be supplied in writing by the chair of the dissertation committee (e.g., Ph.D. candidates) or the Dean of the school (e.g., M.D. candidates).
- Citizenship. You must also be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States at the time of application (September 1). The I-551 stamp in a passport is acceptable; "Employment Authorization" documents are not acceptable. http://cancer.gov/prevention/pob
