EARLY RELEASE FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND
UT Health Science Center at Houston President James T. Willerson, M.D., has decided to give personnel a gift of time this Thursday afternoon. Non-essential faculty and staff who are not engaged in critical patient care and research operations or in scheduled classes may be released early for the Independence Day weekend beginning at noon, tomorrow, Thursday, July 3.
All personnel should note that the "early release" is not a closing of the university. Patient appointments, critical research activities and classes are not being cancelled. Patients who have scheduled appointments that afternoon are counting on us to be there for them. Therefore, previously scheduled clinics should not close until the final appointment of the day has been completed.
Those who continue to work through their regular shifts tomorrow will enjoy the Independence Day weekend four hour gift of time at a later date.
FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR AWARDS
Applications for 2009-2010 are due by August 1, 2008
Public health scholarship is a priority for a number of U.S. Fulbright scholar awards. Consider a Fulbright grant for research, teaching or both. Several research awards that are open in all disciplines list public health as a specialization of interest, including Vietnam and India. Likewise, lecturing awards available in India include public health as a preferred field. Most Sub-Saharan African countries, from South Africa to Democratic Republic of the Congo, welcome combined lecturing/research applications in public health. Also important, research awards in AIDS and AIDS-Related Research are offered to any of over 25 Sub-Saharan African countries.
Apply online at: http://www.cies.org/us_scholars/us_awards/. U.S. citizenship is required, as is a Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree. Contact Lindsay Hench, lhench@cies.iie.org, 202 686-4020 regarding Vietnam; David Adams, dadams@cies.iie.org, 202 686-4021 about India. Contact Debra Egan, degan@cies.iie.org, 202.686-6230, or Matthew Fortier, mfortier@cies.iie.org, 202 686-4027, about applying to Africa.
