Shawn Gibbs, PhD, will present “Isolation of Staphylococcus aureus and Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcus aureus from Residential Indoor Bioaerosols”. Dr. Gibbs will present the results of a study that evaluated the levels of Staphylococcus aureus and antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus in several houses in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Gibbs is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Texas School of Public Health El Paso Regional Campus. Arnold Schecter, MD, MPH, will present “Brominated flame retardants: A new public health threat?” Brominated flame retardants are commonly found in homes and offices since the 1970s. Dr. Arnold Schecter, a Board Certified physician in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, is a Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the Dallas Regional Campus of the University of Texas School of Public Health. Radiation Safety Officer Course

Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, the RSO Course was developed to provide the information needed for an individual to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation hazards. The course outline and lectures are organized and designed to meet the established Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DHSH) Radiation Control training requirements for individuals wishing to become Radiation Safety Officers.
