EOHS Research Seminar Series
Friday, May 18th, 2007, 12:00 - 1:00 pm, RAS W102B
David Coggon, MA, PhD, will present, “Cultural Influences on Illness Attributed to Occupational and Environmental Hazards” The conventional paradigm for managing occupational risks to health entails hazard identification and characterization, assessment of exposure and risk, and controls on exposure where risks are deemed unacceptable.  This model has been enormously successful, and remains so for many hazards.  However, Dr. Coggon will argue that it is less apt for some of the most important work-related disorders that now confront us.  David Coggon trained in medicine at Cambridge and Oxford Universities. In 1980 he joined the Medical Research Council's Environmental Epidemiology Unit at Southampton University, where he is now Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and an accredited occupational physician.

Free Lunch for first 50 attendees.  For more information go to 2006-2007 EOHS Research Seminar Calendar or contact Maria Arias at (713) 500-9266 maria.arias@uth.tmc.edu
