Annual UTSPH Staff Appreciation Luncheon

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Exam Overview

Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health and the Buffalo Bayou Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, the CHMM Overview provides a comprehensive review of federal environmental and occupational safety laws and regulations and the principals associated with the management of hazardous materials. The course was created to assist professionals who would like to take the CHMM national certification exam administered by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM). TMC Women's Health Advocacy Conference

We are excited to announce that due to additional sponsorship, we are able to cut the registration fee in half to only $25 for our second annual Women's Health Advocacy Conference on May 13, 2008 with keynote speaker, Dr. Nancy Dickey, President, Texas A & M Health Science Center and Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, Texas A & M System. This conference will again be held at Trevisio Conference Center and will promote the collaboration of community members, researchers, clinicians, and policymakers to develop women's health policy recommendations for Texas. Specific roundtable topics include violence prevention, obesity prevention, mental health & access to care. Legislators including Representatives Garnet Coleman and Jessica Farrar will be involved. Shawn Gibbs, PhD, will present “Isolation of Staphylococcus aureus and Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcus aureus from Residential Indoor Bioaerosols”. Dr. Gibbs will present the results of a study that evaluated the levels of Staphylococcus aureus and antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus in several houses in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Gibbs is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Texas School of Public Health El Paso Regional Campus. Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS)

Radiation Safety Officer Course

Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, the RSO Course was developed to provide the information needed for an individual to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation hazards. The course outline and lectures are organized and designed to meet the established Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DHSH) Radiation Control training requirements for individuals wishing to become Radiation Safety Officers.
