Endemic Transmission of HIV

Richard B. Rothenberg, MD, MPH will speak on “Endemic Transmission of HIV in the Inner City”. Dr. Rothenberg is Professor in the Institute of Public Health at Georgia State University. Dr. Rothenberg’s presentation will focus on the transmission dynamics of STDs and HIV, with special emphasis on the role of social networks in facilitating or obstructing disease propagation. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Exam Overview

Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health and the Buffalo Bayou Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers, the CHMM Overview provides a comprehensive review of federal environmental and occupational safety laws and regulations and the principals associated with the management of hazardous materials. The course was created to assist professionals who would like to take the CHMM national certification exam administered by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM). Shawn Gibbs, PhD, will present “Isolation of Staphylococcus aureus and Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcus aureus from Residential Indoor Bioaerosols”. Dr. Gibbs will present the results of a study that evaluated the levels of Staphylococcus aureus and antibiotic resistant Staphylococcus aureus in several houses in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Gibbs is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Texas School of Public Health El Paso Regional Campus. Radiation Safety Officer Course

Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, the RSO Course was developed to provide the information needed for an individual to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation hazards. The course outline and lectures are organized and designed to meet the established Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DHSH) Radiation Control training requirements for individuals wishing to become Radiation Safety Officers.
