John M. Dement, PhD, will present “Fiber Size-specific Exposures and Mortality among Workers Exposed to Chrysotile Asbestos”.  This study confirms the findings from previous investigations of excess mortality from lung cancer and asbestosis and a strong exposure-response relationship between estimated exposure to chrysotile and mortality from lung cancer and asbestosis Asbestos fiber dimension appears to be an important determinant of respiratory disease risk.  Dr. John M. Genomics and Chronic Disease
Wednesday, April 23, 2008, Noon - 1:00 pm, RAS Auditorium
Richard S. Cooper, MD will speak on “Genomics and Chronic Disease:  Prospects for Clinical Application”.  This presentation will describe advances in genetic research and the underlying pattern of susceptibility to several common diseases.  Dr. Cooper is a physician epidemiologist and professor and chairman of the department of Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology at Loyola University Medical Center.  More information can be found at http://www.sph.uth.tmc.edu/course/envi/Spring08Colloquia/cooperr.pdf.  Lunch will be provided to the first 60 attendees.

Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Exam Overview

Radiation Safety Officer Course
Monday – Friday, June 23 – 27, 2008, 8am – 5pm, UT Operations Center Building (OCB)
Presented by the Southwest Center for Occupational & Environmental Health, the RSO Course was developed to provide the information needed for an individual to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control ionizing radiation hazards.
