Funding Opportunities
The Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) at the University of Texas-Houston, School of Public Health supports short term research pilot projects to enhance occupational and environmental health research in Region 6, which includes the states of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New Mexico.  Funding is provided through a Pilot Projects Research Training Grant from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and awards are made competitively.  Detailed information on the grant application procedures, deadline for applications, and application forms are available at the NIOSH Pilot Project website below. Two practicum information sessions are coming soon!  Dr. Linda Lloyd, Associate Dean for Public Health Practice, will discuss practicum requirements and answer questions at these sessions.  Sessions are 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm in RAS W216 on Wednesday, April 2, 2008  and Tuesday, April 22, 2008.  Both sessions are the same.

EOHS Research Seminar Series

1st Annual Public Health Field Day

2008 Student Team Competition in Elder Abuse and Neglect

John M. Dement, PhD, will present “Fiber Size-specific Exposures and Mortality among Workers Exposed to Chrysotile Asbestos”.  This study confirms the findings from previous investigations of excess mortality from lung cancer and asbestosis and a strong exposure-response relationship between estimated exposure to chrysotile and mortality from lung cancer and asbestosis Asbestos fiber dimension appears to be an important determinant of respiratory disease risk.  Dr. John M. Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) Exam Overview
