Children's Nutrition Research Seminar

Leonard H. Epstein, PhD, Professor of Pediatrics, University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences will present, "Behavioral Choice Theory and Obesity." The overall objective of the CRED is to study the mechanisms by which environmental factors may cause or influence human disease and to develop methods for early detection, prevention, and control of environmentally related diseases. , will present “Microbes in Space:  An Astronaut Health Hazard?”  The space shuttle environment - a semi-closed system with individuals occupying a small space - presents a scenario that has often resulted in microbial disease outbreaks in other settings.  Although flight crews must have exceptional health prior to entering such an environment and the water/food on the shuttle must be of high quality, studies have shown that space flight alters the immune system of crew members as well as the virulence of microorganisms that may be present.  Kristina D. Mena, MSPH, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at The University of Texas School of Public Health. Free lunch for first 50 attendees! Jason Cabot Retirement Reception

Jason Cabot, Senior Staff Assistant, of the Michael and Susan Dell Center for Advancement of Healthy Living, is retiring after 11 years with the Dell Center and 14 total years with UTSPH.  His retirement reception will be held at 2:30 PM inRAS W102B.
