American Statistical Association

Founded in 1839 to foster excellence in the use and application of statistics to the biological, physical, social and economic sciences, ASA is a leader in promoting statistical practice, applications, and research; publishing statistical journals; improving statistical education; and advancing the statistics profession.

Bernoulli Society for Mathematical Statistics and Probability

The Bernoulli Society was founded in 1973. It is an autonomous section of the International Statistical Institute, ISI. According to its statutes, the object of the Bernoulli Society is the advancement, through international contacts, of the sciences of probability (including the theory of stochastic processes) and mathematical statistics and of their applications to all those aspects of human endeavour which are directed towards the increase of natural knowledge and the welfare of mankind.

International Association For Statistical Computing

IASC is the only international organization caring about the theory, methods and practice of statistical computing. We work to share and advance statistical computing techniques by facilitating the exchange of information and by stimulating evaluations, research and development.

International Biometric Society-ENAR

The International Biometric Society is an international society for the advancement of biological science through the development of quantitative theories and the application, development and dissemination of effective mathematical and statistical techniques. The Society welcomes as members biologists, mathematicians, statisticians, and others interested in applying similar techniques. By definition of the IBS, ENAR includes portions of the United States and Canada east of aproximately 104 degrees West Longitude. Membership is open to all residents of this region.

International Society for Clinical Biostatistics

The Society is organized and shall be operated for educational and scientific purposes with the following Aims: to stimulate research on the biostatistical principles and methodology used in clinical research; to increase the relevance of statistical theory to clinical medicine; to promote high and harmonized standards of statistical practice; to work with other societies and organizations in the advancement of biostatistics; to promote better understanding of the use and interpretation of biostatistics by the general public, and by national and international organizations and agencies within the public and commercial sectors with an interest in, and/or responsibilities for, public health; and to provide a common forum for clinicians and statisticians through meetings, seminars and publications.

Statistical Society of Canada

The mission of the Statistical Society of Canada is to encourage the development and use of statistics and probability. The Statistical Society of Canada strives towards this mission by helping to develop a public awareness of the value of statistical thinking and the importance of statistics and statisticians in Canadian society, working to ensure that decisions affecting Canadian society are based on appropriate data and valid statistical interpretation, promoting the highest possible standards for statistical education and practice in Canada, promoting the development of statistical methodology, promoting a sense of community among all statisticians in Canada and providing a forum for the exchange of ideas between theoreticians and practitioners of statistics.

Royal Statistical Society

The Royal Statistical Society provides a forum for all who are interested in statistics. It has over 6000 members, a quarter of whom are outside the UK. With its wide range of activities and publications, it offers you stimulation and communication, whether you are a user of statistics in your everyday professional or social life, a statistician practising in industry, commerce, government, education or research, or a student of the subject.

Statlib

StatLib is a system for distributing statistical software, datasets, and information by electronic mail, FTP and WWW. StatLib started out as an e-mail service and some of the organization still reflects that heritage.

Mathematica

Descriptive statistics for univariate and multivariate data.
Data smoothing.
Classical hypothesis testing.
Confidence interval estimation.
Linear and nonlinear regression.

Publicon

Publicon, the new standard for technical publishing, is a full-featured publishing system specifically designed for the creation of professional-quality technical documents. Publicon's formatting tools enable sophisticated mathematical typesetting in which hundreds of special characters and all of the common mathematical symbols are used.

TAS

The American Statistician (TAS) started publication in 1947. The journal had been systematically indexed in the Current Index to Statistics (CIS) since 1975, with reliable electronic records still surviving back to 1980. CIS is a joint venture of ASA and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Power Analysis for Monitoring Programs

Inherent to any monitoring program is variation in the numbers of plants and animals counted. Some of that variation is natural (e.g., population dynamics such as births, deaths, immigration, and emigration, weather effects, and so on) and some is due to the flaws of the chosen monitoring technique (e.g., observer differences, different fractions of individuals being counted each time). This variation in numbers (from both natural and sampling sources) partially obscures the presence of any long-term trends. If the noise from this extraneous variation is high enough and we have too few counts, then we may fail to detect important underlying population trends in our population which, after all, is the goal of our monitoring program.
