Training Workshop on HIV Prevention and Research
The UTSPH Center for International Training and Research, in collaboration with Ngoc Tam Corp and the Ho Chi Minh City AIDS Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, conducted a training workshop from July 30 to August 3, 2007 in the area of HIV.
Specific objectives of the workshop were:
To transfer our knowledge and skills in advanced research and teaching gained from the US to postgraduate education in an academic institution in Vietnam, especially in the area of integrated HIV prevention and research;
To enhance our skills and experience in conducting and organizing international exchange programs, particularly in the research and teaching arena;
To expand our knowledge on research and teaching practices in Vietnam through learning from Vietnamese colleagues;
To enable public health professionals who work in HIV prevenion in Vietnam to approach advanced evidence-based integrated HIV prevenion and research;
To advance our presentation and scientific communication skills, and leardership skills.
The training course used the problem-based learning method including lectures, brainstorming, and group discussions. The lectures were delivered in English with simultaneous translation into Vietnamese, and group discussions were held in Vietnamese.
