Introduction
Project H.O.M.E.
was a 5-year study, conducted by the University of Texas
Health Science Center at Houston (UT-Houston), and funded by
the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The aim of this study
was to improve women veterans’ adherence to mammography
guidelines.
Preliminary
results show that the
intervention, mailed to women veterans around the
country, was successful, and particularly effective in
motivating women veterans who use the VA to adhere to
mammography guidelines.
In 2003 we were
awarded a one-year supplement from NCI to disseminate
Project H.O.M.E. in the VA health care system, in
collaboration with Women Veteran Program Managers (WVPMs).
This pilot project will help us understand the unique
characteristics of the VA setting that may facilitate or
impede dissemination of Project H.O.M.E.
