Investigator, CCCT
Allan King Professor in Public Health (Biostatistics),
School of Public Health

Community of Science Profile

Received his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1969. Dr. Hardy has worked on several large multicenter randomized clinical trials designed to evaluate treatment of cardiovascular diseases. These include: HDFP, Aspirin in Transient Attacks Trial, BHAT, Aspirin-Persantine Trial, and SHEP. He directs three studies that deal with the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity: CRYO-ROP, LIGHT-ROP, and ETROP. Treatments of retinopathy of prematurity identified in these studies are currently used in many hospital neonatal intensive care nurseries in the United States as well as several foreign countries. Further research includes the development of an approach to the outcome-based management of retinopathy of prematurity. Dr. Hardy is on several Data and Safety Monitoring Committees, serving as the chair on two.
