CATCH RIO GRANDE VALLEY Brownsville Independent School District Harlingen Consolidated Indpendent School District McAllen Indpendent School District
CATCH Rio Grande Valley is a federally funded child and adolescent health project that is being coordin-ated by the Brownsville Regional Campus of the Uni-versity of Texas School of Public Health at Houston. CATCH Rio Grande Valley aims for the diffusion, adoption, implementation, and institutionalization of CATCH with the Brownsville Independent School District, Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District, and McAllen Independent School District. Fifteen schools were recruited from their respective districts to serve as demonstration schools. These schools receive community grants, earmarked for school food service, physical education, curriculum materials, and promotional efforts. All elementary school staff among the three districts received train-ing from the CATCH master trainers who are funded from the Texas Depart-ment of Health dissemination project. In addition, a regional coordinator and three district champions (i.e. one for each district) help to promote CATCH Rio Grande Valley.
Brownsville Independent School District has created a CATCH committee to support their school CATCH champions.
