1. NIH Training Grant

The Division of Biostatistics has a NIH Training Grant.  Trainees will receive a stipend of $20,772 annually, paid tuition, and paid health insurance. Trainees will be given opportunity to collaborate with researchers in biomedical, genetic, epidemiological, clinical and behavioral sciences while working on methodological research at the Texas Medical Center, the world's largest medical center.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • US Citizenship or permanent residency at the time of award.
  • Acceptance to the PhD program in Biostatistics.
  • Have a Bachelor's Degree or higher in a quantitative fiels of study.
  • Must enroll as a full-time student at UTHSCH, School of Public Health.
  • If awarded, the trainee may not hold any paid position.

2. Teaching Assistantships (TA)

Students enrolled as a Biostatistics graduate student may apply for a teaching assistantship.  The student will assist a faculty member teaching a course.  Positions range from 4 hours to 10 hours a week.  If you are interested in applying for a TA position, please email your CV and a list of all biostatistics and mathematics courses you have taken to Jada.Mikeska@uth.tmc.edu.

3. Scholarships

A.   M. Stewart West Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is for $1000 and is awarded to a Biostatistics student based on academic merit and financial need.  The award is given annually contingent upon available funding.  The student must have completed a minimum of one semester as a Biostatistics student and show potential for excellence in the field.  The student must be continuing his/her education in biostatistics.  Students are nominated by a Biostatistics faculty member.  The faculty member should write a letternominating the student citing why he/she should receive this scholarship.  Two letters of recommendation are required.

B.  Richard D. Remington Memorial Student Scholarship

This scholarship is for $500 and is awarded to a Biostatistics student based on academic merit and financial need.  The award is given annually contingent upon available funding.  The student must have completed a minimum of one semester as a Biostatistics student and show potential for excellence in the field.  The student must be continuing his/her education in biostatistics.  Students are nominated by a Biostatistics faculty member.  The faculty member should write a letternominating the student citing why he/she should receive this scholarship.  Two letters of recommendation are required.

4. Travel Awards

In conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs, small sums of money are available annually for students to travel to national meetings to present their research.
