Austin Regional Campus

Arc building

The Austin Regional Campus was established in 2007 to offer graduate level training in public health to the Austin and central Texas region. The ARC offers a graduate Certificate in Public Health, a 16 hour program of study consisting of five courses covering the core disciplines of public health. The Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree started in fall 2008, the dual Master of Science in Social Work & MPH degree (MSSW-MPH), the Doctor in Public Health (DrPH) in Health Promotion, and the PhD in Epidemiology starts in fall 2009. The Austin Regional Campus offers a general MPH (no formal specialization) and has faculty members with research interests in Child and Adolescent Behavior and Epidemiology, Chronic Disease Prevention, and Public Health Policy. (Vist this website to learn more about these disciplines and visit this website to learn more about careers in public health).  The UT School of Public Health is fully accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and has academic responsibility for the program.

Courses are offered onsite by resident faculty. Interactive video (ITV) courses are also available and originate from and connect all six of the school’s campuses. Students interested in learning more about the Austin regional campus academic programs may e-mail Maria Eva Fernandez, Academic Affairs Coordinator at austinregionalcampus@uth.tmc.edu or dialing 512-482-6176.

News

  Maudie Roberts

Maudie Roberts knew from an early age that she wanted to
work in the health care field.
"My Mom was a medical secretary and I spent a lot of time in her physician's office," says Roberts.
So Roberts earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Purdue University in Indiana.
Part of her required course work was a class in community health.
"When I went to work at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after I graduated,
I often thought about how so many severe health issues could have been prevented.

Says Roberts, "I got to see how the pieces of public health fit together. And I realized that public health is dynamic and complex, and I fell in love with it.".   View story here .
