The Dell Center for Healthy Living

Dietetic Internship Program

The Dietetic Internship and Advanced Public Health Degree Program at the University of Texas School of Public Health (UTSPH) combines a graduate degree with an accredited dietetic internship. Students may work toward either the Master or the Doctoral Degree in The School of Public Health depending on interests and prior degrees held. The UTSPH offers a M.S., M.P.H., Ph.D., or Dr.P.H. The Program provides students with the opportunity for advanced study as well as applied supervised practice experience in a variety of affiliated health care institutions and local businesses.

Graduates of the Program are prepared to practice as entry-level dietitians with a graduate degree and also meet requirements for Active Membership in The American Dietetic Association. Upon successful completion of the dietetic internship, the intern is eligible to take the registration examination for dietitians and is qualified to apply for dietetic licensure in the State of Texas.

The Dietetic Internship provides approximately 1070 hours of supervised practice in four major areas of Dietetics: Community Nutrition, Food Service Systems Management, Medical Nutrition Therapy and Specialty Practice. Experiences are attained in institutions within the Texas Medical Center as well as in others throughout the city of Houston and Harris County.
