    These briefs, released today by the Public Health Institute and funded through a grant from the California Endowment, provide a quick, easy-to-use reference for high profile subjects in the school nutrition/physical activity environment. They should be used to educate state and local policymakers as they work towards solutions for school environments.

    Free tool kit that addresses the entire school nutrition environment from a commitment to nutrition and physical activity, pleasant eating experiences, quality school meals, other healthy food options, nutrition education and marketing the issue to the public. This kit can help local people take action to improve their school's nutrition environment. The kit includes a variety of tools for use at the local level to raise awareness and address school environment issues that influence students' eating and physical activity practices.

    The Secretary of Agriculture launched the Healthier US School Challenge. This is a voluntary certification for schools that are willing to establish nutrition standards for foods and beverages beyond the school meals program, and provide opportunities for nutrition education and physical activity.
